Put your closer in the game at the start of the seventh inning
and use him the rest of the way.
In the offseason when you are resigning free agents, there is a
very effective way of saving lots of money for free agency without
being cheap and changing stats. Instead of lowering and raising
stats, just go to "View Roster" and convert all of your
starters and closers into relievers. Resign all of them to small
deals worth at most about $3 million a year. Once you sign them,
change them back into their original position. It might not sound
like much but if you have a $19 million pitcher like Johan
Santana, it can be a lot of free cash. This will also work with
turning slow players into the 2B or SS position and resigning
them, or turning small players into the C or 1B position and
resigning them.
